the glitz and glamor associated with a Formula One career is a far and away dream for most aspiring racer boys but if money is of no object, you can always grab yourself a real-deal Formula One race car, albeit being a little on the vintage side, to fulfill your adrenalin-charged dream. though, the fame and fortune are not guaranteed here. sure, you can spend a million on one brand new example but how is that going to compare with one that was built for and driven by 1980 F1 world champion Alan Jones? we see this as two pluses: one, it was once piloted by a champ and two, it has the vintage Formula One race car design that had captured our imaginations when we were just an adolescent. this beautiful example is equipped with a 475 bhp, 2,993 cc mid-longitudinally mounted, alloy block-and-head DOHC 32-valve Ford Cosworth DFV V-8 engine, mated to a Hewland FGA 400 six-speed manual transmission and wrapped in an aluminum-monocoque chassis. handling and braking duties come in the form of four-wheel independent suspension via lower wishbones, top rockers, inboard coil-over shocks and anti-roll bars, and four-wheel ventilated hydraulic disc brakes. the best part is, this vehicle is still in its full race prepared condition and has been put through a series of vintage races by its current owner, and hence, spares are never going to be an issue. as for the good news, this beauty is going under the gavel at the upcoming Monaco sales this weekend and is expected to fetch between €480,000 to €580,000 (about US$622,000 to US$750,000). so get ready your air ticket and your check book. more photos after the break.
