we don’t always tell you how to spend your hard earned dough (ok, maybe we did most of the time). there are times where we just want to share some interesting finds, such as this cute little guy known as the Aeryon SkyRanger sUAS. it is highly portable Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that falls under the small Unmanned Aerial System (or sUAS) category. Aeryon Labs has chosen quadcopter as its platform for its portability and ease of use, and despite its diminutive size (it weighs around 5 pounds and measures 40 inches across), it is totally capable of sustaining in a wind speed and gust of 40 mph (65 km/h) and 50 mph (90 km/h), respectively. its pleasing enclosure is the result of a ruggedized and weather-sealed construction that promises to brave extreme elements and capable of operating in temperature between 22 degrees and 122 degrees Fahrenheit (-30 degrees to 50 degrees Celsius).

other key features include up to 50 minutes flight time with payload, immediate preassembled deployment (something like ready-to-fly in leisure hobbyist’s term), onboard EO/IR cameras with simultaneous streaming (EO: 1080p videos and 15MP stills; IR: 640×48- videoing) and a single-operator touchscreen interface with simple point-and-click control and dynamic flight planning. communication between the operator and the aircraft is via low-latency digital 256-bit encrypted network with a range of up to 5 km. all the aforementioned features, along with its vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability, makes it an ideal tool for military reconnaissance, domestic security surveillance, as well as emergency response applications. the Aeryon SkyRanger sUAS will be making its round in various international trade shows this year, kicking off with the CANSEC 2013 in Ottawa, Canada from May 29-30. if you are keen, you can learn more about the SkyRanger HERE.
