just when you thought the glorious American muscle cars are fading into the background in the midst of automobile modernization, Michigan-based EQUUS Automotive is busy putting the muscle into American made cars with some doses of luxury and the vehicle that will kickstart this revolution is the 2014 EQUUS BASS770 luxury muscle car. the BASS770 is decidedly ‘retro’, bearing signature design elements from 60s and 70s muscle cars, including the unmistakably (and fondly remembered) fastback, flared wheel arches and long, sculpted bonnet. and like the awesome muscle cars of yesteryear, a big block – in this case, a 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 aluminum engine – drives this beauty, unleashing some 640 horses and 605 lb-ft of torque (477 kW and 820 Nm) put to the rear wheels via a six-speed rear-mounted dual clutch gearbox. this awesome output is said to enable this 3,640 lb. (1,650 kg) fastback coupe to launch from zero to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, sending it to a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h).

other features include 19″ rolling stocks shod in 255/40 ZR19 tires up front and 285/40 ZR19 at the rear, magnetic selective ride control, traction control, variable-ratio power steering, Brembo braking system with ventilated cross-drilled carbon-ceramic rotors paired with 6-pod calipers front and 4-pods rear, a “superformed” aluminum chassis with carbon fiber lined inners, hand wrapped leather interior, Alcantara ceiling, analog gauges, plus the usuals such as air-conditioning, GPS, radio/CD/DVD combo player, USB port, onboard tire pressure monitor and more. it all sounds nice, but we have to keep in mind EQUUS Automotive is marketing this born-again muscle car as a luxury ride, or a luxury American muscle car to be more precise, and thus it does come with a very hefty price tag; expect to shell out at least $250,000 for one of these. ouch. looks like before you can start burning rubbers on the tarmac, you will be burning a mega size hole in your bank account.

anyway, it is good know that someone is actually making the muscle car in the form that we fondly remembers. ridiculous price apart, we definitely think it deserves a few more look, which you can find in the image gallery below (try to ignore the Mustang-like logo) and while you there, also check out a ‘feature film’ starring the BASS770 to see the beast in action.
