remember the good’ol floppy disk – specifically the 3.5″ format? for us, we fondly remember them not so much as a storage for our then puny digital contents (fuzzy jpegs and gifs, along with wav files) but the fun we had in sliding back that metal slip and letting it go with an addictive ‘tack’ sound while we were waiting for our favorite game, Decathlon, to load up. years after it has outlived its usefulness, this memorable floppy disk is back but in a form of a life-size coffee table (nope. not coasters, unfortunately). created by Axel Van and Marian Neulant, this hot-rolled steel table features the familiar metal slip which can be slid open, revealing a storage area for remotes and other smaller items. though we are not sure if the metal slip is spring-loaded like its smaller relative which we hope not. cos’ the last thing you want is retrieving your remotes under the threat of a horizontal guillotine. anyway, the duo paid close attention to detail including direction arrow, chamfer corner and write-protect tab (non-functional, of course). each unit is handmade with lasered engraved serial number as a mark of authenticity. the Floppy Disk Table (officially, FloppyTable) can be yours for €720 (roughly US$935). click through for a few more look.
