Hitachi is giving Seagate and Kingston a run for their money in the external storage for iPad market. last week, it announced the G-Connect Wireless Storage for iPad but not without some differentiating features. the G-Connect is not just an external storage for iPad but it is also an wireless access point, plus it does not runs off a battery. though, i am not sure if the latter is exactly a good feature, especially when we are on-the-go.

sporting a 500-GB hard drive, it can be powered by USB or any external source. similar to the Kingston Wi-Drive, it allows streaming of content to multiple devices and includes iOS apps for use with iPad and iPhone, and that’s not all. the G-Connect is also DLNA-compliant, which means it will show up on your network such as a DLNA-certified TV, as a media playback device. another welcome feature is the ability to separate your folders into public and private folders so you that your friends and family won’t get to see your naughty pictures or anything that you don’t wish them to see.

the Hitachi G-Connect Wireless Storage is available for pre-order now via G-Technology website for $199.99 and the drive is expected to ship this July. check out a short product intro video after the break.
