if you love to cycle with your young ones, then you probably have thought about or had a child seat installed on your bicycle. not a new idea for sure, but Canada-based Glen Dobson thinks he can do better and came out with the idea of Mac Ride which he reimagined the child seat designed specifically for adult mountain bikes. why specifically mountain bikes, you asked? well, Glen wants you and your kid to take the cycling experience off the paved roads and onto the trails where it is safer and generally speaking, have better air. Glen’s Mac Ride is a completely new take of what a child seat for bicycle should be and that’s between the rider and the handle bar, so your child can experience first hand what it is like to be riding. its kind of like being on first person view, where your child will have a clear view ahead and can join you in the motion of biking like leaning around corners and steering.
in a nutshell, your junior when be more engaged throughout the entire cycling time. the contraption is designed to be easy-to-install and can be swiftly removed to be fitted on another bike or stash in your backpack if so desired. the seat is of plastic (polycarbonate, to be exact) while the rest of the frame are made of aluminum and steel to ensure durability and sturdiness. Mac Ride is adjustable to fit different bikes and child sizes, and is able to accommodate up to kid as old as 6 years of age. Mac Ride does not believe in one-size-fits-all and hence, Mac Ride Child Seat is designed in such a way that the position of the seat along the horizontal frame and the footrests can be adjusted to best accommodate your kids height. though it is worthy to note that Mac Ride does not provide harness like conventional child seats for bicycles. the safety of your junior while on the child seat rests entirely on your hands.
finally, if not most importantly (for style-obsessed parents, that is), the child seat’s design is sleek and sophisticated, which means it won’t mar the beauty of your mountain bike. in fact, we thought it looks pretty cool and the fact that your kid riding along is now closer to you, there will be more interaction between the two as you enjoy pedaling through the wilderness. as good as it sounds, the Mac Ride Child Seat For Adult Mountain Bikes still has a hurdle to clear before it can be materialized and that’s getting enough financial backing on Kickstarter. if you are enamor by Glen’s concept (seriously, who doesn’t?), then a pledge of $195 or more will snag you a Mac Ride if the campaign meets its set funding goal in the next twelve days. if all goes well, you can expect to be greeted by a Mac Ride by end of this year. check out a product video to see the Mac Ride Child Seat in action.
