“the back is the new front” – that’s what the Finnish handset maker is touting for its newest flagship Windows Phone and for good reasons: ‘cos the Nokia Lumia 1020, as it is called, is equipped with the second generation 41MP backside illuminated ultra sensitive sensor (with Zeiss lens, no less). the handset design is pretty much the usual Nokia flair and kind of reminiscences of the Nokia Lumia 800 with the exception of a black prominent protrusion on the back of the phone where the PureView ZEISS lens, a powerful Xenon and LED flash are nested. the imaging business end employs an oversampling technology to capture incredibly sharp images which allows you to manipulate the image after you have captured them, such as zooming them to the closest possible without sacrificing on its quality and that same technology applies to videoing as well.
also included is the second-gen optical image stabilization and a super quick Xenon flash for ultra steady stills and videos, and incredible low light photography. the main shooter works in conjunction with a new Nokia Pro Camera to give avid smartphone shutterbugs total control over their shots with myriad of adjustments including exposure setting with a stunning long exposure capability, manual focus, white balance and more. awe and wonder for the camera aside, the rest of the smartphone’s hard specs seems pretty “regular” by today’s standard. it has a glove-friendly 4.5″ AMOLED ClearBlack touch display with 1,280 by 768 resolution and boasting sunlight readability, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection, a modest 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage, a 1.2MP wide-angle front-facing camera, and a 2,000 mAh battery with wireless charging support via wireless charging shell.
with the purchase of the phone, it will comes with free global HERE Maps, HERE Drive+, subscription free Nokia Music streaming, as well as 7GB free SkyDrive cloud storage. the Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows Phone is set to be available in the US through AT&T starting from July 26 for $299.99 with a two-year contract. pre-order for the AT&T set begins on the 16th this month. China and key EU markets should be seeing this awesome phone within this quarter while the availability for the rest of the “select market” will be sometime end of this year.
