as expected, Samsung has taken the wrap off the third generation Note, the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 smartphone, at the IFA 2013 and it would be a phone that would put a grin on all plastic-haters. the refreshed Note now sports a soft, textured-touch faux-leather back, complete with delicate stitching for what Sammy’s called “premium look and feel.” well, it may not exactly evoke that feel, but having a faux leather is definitely a huge leap for Samsung and should help silent critics who long have been sneering at the Korean firm love for plastics. for fans of removable battery, you’d be glad that its massive 3,200 mAh battery is still removable and the firm will also be offering exchangeable back covers in a variety of hues for, you know, vanity sake.

the third-gen Note gets a slight bump in size with a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by either a 2.3GHz Snapdragon quad-core chip or a 1.9GHz Exynos Octa processor, depending on markets, and supported by the industry current largest RAM at 3GB. on the imaging front, it has a 13MP BSI camera packing in Smart Stabilization and high CRI LED flash, a 2MP front-facing shooter, also a BSI item with the image stabilization and Full HD recording. we noted on the spec sheet that the camera (presumably the main item) is capable of UHD at 30 fps, but oddly this wasn’t highlighted in the PR text. so is it there, or is not? anyway, the handset will be available in two capacities: 32 and 64GB, both which expandable via microSD lot (supports up to 64GB). the new large size smartphone also boasts an improved S Pen, well, actually, it is more like software enhancements for what the S Pen could do (such as Air Command).

the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 smartphone will be hitting over 140 countries starting from September 25, while folks the US won’t be seeing it till later this year. price is of course, telco-tied, which means we won’t know how much at this point in time.

UPDATE [December 25, 2014; 3:46PM PST] earlier this month, Samsung has announced a ‘rose gold’ version of the Note 3. with the Rose Gold edition, all previously silver parts are given a touch of faux opulence (including the stylus too). the rose gold is available in a choice of black or white flavor. check the image gallery below for the images.
