we are accustom to media player. the little rectangular box that stores and streams your digital movies collections, and sometimes, let you access to a host of online digital contents. but the Slingbox here does it a wee differently: it encodes video signal into SMPTE 421M or VC-1 format for transmission over the Internet, thus allowing you to manage, view your TV’s cable or satellite feeds via a connected computer, tablet, smartphone or even a connected TV, from just about anywhere in the world. just why would anyone wants to do so, is beyond us but we guess, sometimes we miss our TV at home more than we miss our family and friends when we are traveling. no? just saying. Slingbox comes in two flavors: the 350 and 500. while both models is capable of full HD 1080p streamer, they differ ever so slightly in terms of features and of course, price points. the 350 hooks up to your DVR, set-top box or satellite receiver via component or composite and connects to the Internet via Ethernet. the 500, on the other hand, boast built-in WiFi and HDMI connectivity on top of the regular component and composite connectors, plus it has new SlingProjector feature that you to wirelessly share your content beamed from any smartphone, tablet or laptop to the TV. both the Slingbox 350 & 500 is slated to hit the stores in the U.S. on October 14, 2012 with the 350 and 500 going for $179.99 and $299.99, respectively.
