just a few post ago, we read about Belkin’s WeMo that offers a cost-effective way and straightforward way to kick start your home automation dream but if you are looking for something that’s more comprehensive, then look no further than the SmartThings. SmartThings is an intelligent home automation system that will offers you control and receive notifications from everyday things such as knowing if your doors, windows or cabinets are open or closed, turning on your AC units, implement motion and presence sensors etc etc. what the SmartThings can do is limited to our imagination but for starter, a few core devices will be made available at launch, including power outlet control for turning on and off anything devices that are plugged into a wall outlet, open/shut sensor for keeping you in the know if your doors, windows or cabinets are open or closed, motion sensor that detects movement within in a room, and presence sensor that inform you when people or pets come and go. it is not only designed for SmartThings built devices (known as Things) but it will be compatible to many existing sensors and devices available in the market today. a list of ‘certified third-party’ devices supported will be made available in due course. for $199 you will snag yourself a SmartThings Hub, along with three Things. check out the pledge video after the break to find out more.
