Vaavud Wind Meter 2.0

these days our smartphone, iPhone in particular, can do pretty much everything. paired with the purpose-made hardware it can help cook up awesome steaks, measure your blood pressure, forecast weather and more. last year, a Denmark startup, Vaavud, adds wind meter, aka anemometer, to the growing list of things and more than year on, it has a new version of the wind meter which the firm touted as the world’s first handheld device to measure both wind speed and direction. so, yes. direction is a new addition to the company’s new wind meter, simply called Vaavud Wind Meter 2.0. often when a person measures the wind speed, he or she will probably need to know the direction of the wind too and hence the 2.0 is here to address the lack of direction of the original meter.

Vaavud Wind Meter 2.0

unlike its predecessor, the 2.0 sports an asymmetrical ‘wind catcher’ where the larger section will be hit by more wind, thus accelerating faster. a smart algorithm than compare the point with the highest speed to the compass direction, thereby deriving the wind direction. another sensor tracks the average rotation speed of the device and works out the wind speed. to use the Vaavud Wind Meter 2.0, you need to do is to plug it into the headphone jack of your iPhone, fire up the app and hold your smartphone up, and that all there is to it. no voodoo, no rocket science involved. anyone can tell the wind direction and speed as and when they desire, whether it is for hobby or for their sporting needs. as before, the companion app will also let in to the world’s real-time wind speed graph as contributed by fellow wind meter users from around the world and it will also let you tab of your measuring history. as far as the app is concerned, the firm promised more features will be added.
