IMILAB, a Xiaomi ecological chain enterprise, is taking on the world stage with its IMILAB EC2 Cordless AI Security Camera. At one point, companies are banking on our insecurities and charging us, monthly subscription fees on home security monitoring.
However, in the last year or so, we are seeing many companies doing away with this ‘blood-sucking’ practice and the EC2 is one of them. At least it is for now. I imagine they are doing this free cloud storage thing as way to break into the crowded market of cordless security cameras.
So, yeah, EC2 comes with free cloud storage, even though it supports storage for storing footage onboard, and it has absolutely no monthly fee.
It leverages on your WiFi to upload footage to the cloud and it is outfitted with a rechargeable 5,100 mAh battery for a true cable-free and worry-free home monitoring for up to 120 days.
Not the longest in the market, but I guess it is good enough.
EC2 further touts AI technology to minimize false triggers by differentiating humans, large pets or other large warm moving objects. It is interesting how EC2 so-called AI works and we thought we’d share it with you here:
IMILAB EC2 features PIR (Passive Infrared) thermal sensing technology to work entirely by reliably detecting heat-generating moving objects. When someone enters the sensing range (normally 5-14um wavelength), the PIR motion sensor will automatically receive the infrared wave emitted by the human body which is smart enough to detect humans rather than sheets blowing in the wind.
So, if an animal is detected, PIR will not send alarm notifications and it will not record, which reduces false alarm and also saves power.
A few other highlights include 1080p video recording, night vision up to 100 meters (330 feet), built-in microphone and speaker for two-way communication, AES128 encryption, and an IP66-rated construction that seals it against dust and water, plus it also works in snow, capable of standing up to temperatures from -4 degrees Fahrenheit to 122 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 to 50 Celsius).
IMILAB EC2 Cordless AI Security Camera will retail for $139, but a limited time and limited quantities, it is going for as low as $99 on Indiegogo. It is on Flexible Goal, and so, your pledge is a pre-order which IMILAB aims to fulfill this December. Here’s the pitch video:
