Norway-born, New Yorker Christopher Conte is a self-taught biomechanical sculpture artist who creates beautiful sculptures based around future technologies, more specifically cybernetic organisms which Chris coined as Cybermechanical sculpture. having a degree in Fine Art from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Chris was a Certified Prosthetist for 16 years before going full-time as an artist in mid 2008. Chris often uses modern exotic materials ranging from bronze to carbon fiber combining with ancient techniques of construction for his one-of-the-kind art pieces. being an art aficionado and a lover of technology, i appreciate every bit of Chris’s works, though i may not afford any. his works embody beauty that’s beyond what words can described.

Chris started offering these exquisite sculpture pieces for sale through galleries in 2007 and since 2008, Christopher’s works has graced several galleries and museums. besides getting the attention from media from the likes of The Discovery Channel, Wired Magazine et cetera, defense and homeland security organization also took an interest in Chris’s works. the latest to join Chris impressive portfolio is the ‘Scarlett’ which is a six-legged (a spider has eight legs) biomechanical arachnid cast from bronze with stainless steel, 925 silver, and Garnet. i can’t help but to wonder if ‘Scarlett’ was named after the celebrity Scarlett Johansson? you know, for her character as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and upcoming The Avenger? just thinking…

some of Chris’s past work includes Precognitive (aka Precog) (2010), The Biomic Stand (2010) which is a custom microphone stand based around a mechanical arm created for rock band Three Days Grace, Steel Widow I (2008) & II (2009) among the many others. among them my personal favorites would be the Lethal Injection Attack Droid Prototype which has a pair of bicycle chain as its tracks and the Articulated Antique SINGER Insect (yes, parts from SINGER – the sewing machine). head on to Chris’s website for more information. check out some of images of Chris Conet’s amazing Cybermechanical sculptures after break.
