We Got A Little Tipsy Seeing Instagram Reimagined For Windows 95

Instagram for Windows 95 imagined by Petrick

When we had Windows 95, AOL messenger and ICQ were the ‘social media’. Actually, they are not; they are just messaging services. Back then, the technology did not allow anything more connected like we do today and hence, we will never be able to imagine what today’s social media will look like if they were available during the mid 90s. Then again, we don’t quite need to imagine because Moscow-based design Petrick has already did that for us, or at least, he did so with Instagram. Petrick has this thing for pixelated graphics and it is only fitting that he reimagine what the photo sharing social media platform Instagram will look like in the Windows 95 era.

As you might have imagined, the Instagram for Windows 95 has pixelated graphics, both animated and static, complete with the appropriate font and the familiar teal background to boot. The resulting digital art is pretty surreal and really makes you wonder what if we had Instagram back then. Petrick’s work also makes us appreciate how far technology has progressed in two decades. Simply amazing. Go ahead and check out Petrick’s creation in the embedded video below.
