These Non-Edible Treats Highlight The Plight Of Taiwan’s Water Pollution

Polluted Water Popsicles by Students of NTUA

At first glance, these popsicles look like some irresistible frozen treats, but believe me, you won’t want to sink your teeth into any of them because, they are actually concocted from polluted waters. Basically, they are frozen sewer water equivalent, if not worst. Created by three students from National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA), the Polluted Water Popsicles, as they are called, are made from dirty water collected from 100 locations around Taiwan. The sewage water are first frozen and cast over with clear polyester resin so they could be preserved.

But why would anyone want to do such a thing, you ask? Well, the reason is obvious: these handy sculptures serve to raise awareness for Taiwan’s overwhelming water pollution issue. In total, there are 100 pieces, one of each location, with each accompanied by its own eye-catching wrappers to complete the look. Not surprisingly, Polluted Water Popsicles has garnered much attention, even bagging a nomination for Young Pin Design Award and the collection was also a feature at the New Generation of Design Exhibition, held at the Taipei World Trade Center, in May.

To that end, Polluted Water Popsicles may have just achieved its goal. So, award or not, it was an objective achieved. Keep ahead for a video to learn more about the Polluted Water Popsicles, or if you so desire, you can hit up the project’s Facebook page to pick up more information.
