If you don’t already know, DAHON, while originating in the U.S., is better known in China. We recently featured the brand’s first Brompton-style tri-fold bicycle, the Lunden D7, but we feel we should also tell you about the DAHON LUNDEN M7, too. It is not clear if the D7 and M7 are the same model with different names. But one thing is for sure: it looks like the Chinese market has more interesting color combinations.
The M7 is also referred to as the 26 LUNDEN 16-inch CUC673. As with the D7, the M7 addresses the insufficient rigidity and power loss during riding that plague the iconic tri-fold design. In addition, it boasts a handlebar-mounted remote lever for easily unlocking the rear suspension. Unlocking the suspension allows it to move freely, thus achieving a more comfortable ride as opposed to a stiffer ride when locked. It is an interesting touch, which I believe is also on the D7 but not advertised. I could be wrong.
There is also an adjustable handlebar that not only lets you fine-tune the height, but also adjust the angle. Furthermore, the derailleur has been made flatter to save space, and then there is, of course, the so-called “vest line” structure, i.e., the guy line-like reinforcement that runs from the bottom of the downtube to the triangular frame in the mid-section, paired with a flattened Super Down Tube manufacturing process. Meanwhile, the tapered middle tube and BB shell optimize power transmission.
Other features include a lightweight 349 bearing wheelset for smooth rolling, quicker acceleration, and a longer coasting distance, a DAHON-designed 1×7-speed system, DAHON-designed saddle, aluminum rear cargo rack, easy wheels for pushing along when folded, aluminum fenders, front and rear aluminum alloy C-brakes, an 11-24T cassette, a lightweight narrow-wide 50T chainring, and a DAHON custom shifter handlebar.
All told, the DAHON LUNDEN M7 tips the scale at a reasonable 13.2 kilograms (29.1 pounds). Oh, right, it is a 16-inch tri-fold bike, in case you did not get that.
Dimension-wise, it has a wheelbase of 1,083.5 mm (42.7 inches) and an overall length of 1,520 mm (59.8 inches). Handlebar height ranges from 980 to 1,090 mm (38.6 to 42.9 inches), while the seat height is adjustable between 690 and 980 mm (27.2 to 38.6 inches). The handlebar itself is 520 mm (20.5 inches) wide.
When folded, it measures around 620 mm (24.4 inches) tall, 350 mm (13.8 inches) wide, and 660 mm (26 inches) long.
The M7 also gets more interesting colors compared to the D7. Available finishes include Ink Flame Orange, Caramel Pine Green, Vintage Burgundy, Blue Mint, and Amethyst Rose.
The DAHON LUNDEN M7 is priced at 5,998 yuan [CH] (about US$883) in China.
