ROPE Is An Oversized Rope That Can Be A Sculpture And A Furniture

ROPE Social Sculpture and Furniture

Have you seen a rope before? Of course, you have. But have you seen a rope this HUGE? How HUGE? Well, the ROPE here is 30 cm (12″) in diameter and 550 cm (18 feet) long, and weighing in at 3.2 kg per meter (total 17.6 kg or about 0.98 lbs per foot).

Created by artist Atelier lef Spincemaille, the ROPE is disproportionately large. So much so that it has lost its function as a rope. But in return, it became a functional art.

It is a social sculpture, as Atelier lef Spincemaille calls it. The design is open, allowing ROPE to be used in many ways. It can be a sculpture or as wall art, and in whatever form you want to make it to be.

It can be turned into furniture as a seating, lounge, and whatnot. At 3.2 kg/m, it may very well become exercise equipment too. Then again, it will be one very expensive fitness gear as a ROPE 6M will run you back a cool 1.910 euro (or about US$2,250).

ROPE 6M is available as multiples too which include four new and unique designs. The ROPE 6M – Multiples are available are limited editions and are results of a collaboration between lef Spincemaille and textile designer Esther van Schuylenbergh.

These versions have a limited run of just 100 pieces, each going for a super cool 3.900 euro (about US$4,590).

ROPE is handwoven using a technique developed by Atelier lef Spincemaille based on traditional weaving crafts and is made entirely in Belgium. A lead time of around 6 weeks is required.
