Toyota Pays Homage To A80 Targa Roof Supra With A One-Off GR Supra Sport Top

2021 GR Supra Sport Top

You know what A80 Toyota Supra was known for beside its potential for insane horsepower? Targa top. Last checked, Toyota has no plans for a topless J29 (A90), let alone a Targa top variant. But Toyota had given petrol heads an idea what a Targa top A90 may looked like.

During the SEMA last November, Toyota revealed several custom ride and one of them was a “sport top” GR Supra, which is pretty much a Targa top – less the center bar down the middle.

The other vehicles revealed were an Overland-Ready Tacoma, an Ornamental Conifer GR Supra, a pair of Formula GR Supra Drift builds, and a 500+ HP 2020 GR Supra Heritage Edition. But never mind those because, we only have eyes for the 2021 GR Supra Sport Top.

The 2021 GR Supra Sport Top is not a factory concept; it was custom job by a car customizer in Texas, KC’s Paint Shop. KC’s Paint Shop removed the roof while Toyota Motor NA R&D GQ 3D printed two contoured roof panels, which can stored in the trunk.

Large sections of the vehicle’s frame were reinforced to ensure structural rigidity for the open top. The homage to the 90s open-roof A80 is complete with MKIV-inspired basket handle wing and round taillights.

Under the hood, it is still the 3.0L straight-six turbocharged motor from BMW producing 383 HP and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm).
