New 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI Now Packs 203 Horsepower

2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI

GTI is kind of a Volkswagen thing. I can’t remember any other automakers have used GTI (with the exception of 90s Suzuki Swift GTI and the Nissan Pulsar GTi-R) in modern times. Anywho, GTI is VW and the latest GTI is this: the 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI.

The 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI looked great and so is what’s under the hood. It is powered by a 2.0L TSI inline four turbocharged petrol engine, paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox as standard.

The motor here produces a healthy 203 horsepower and turns out 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) which is put to good use at the front wheels. As for the numbers, we heard it makes the century sprint (0-62 mph) in just 6.5 seconds before topping out at 149 mph (240 kmh).

The engine benefits from dual injection system with combined direct and intake-manifold fuel injection, an engine control unit with four core processors, and an electronic valve-lift system on the inlet side.

There’s a first for this new Polo GTI: IQ.Drive Travel Assist for semi-automated driving. Then again, I pretty sure anyone who buy this ride isn’t into that sort of “self-driving” thing. Anywho, it is there if anyone wants to take advantage of it.

Complementing the performance engine is a sports chassis which is lower by 15 mm (0.6 in.). Aesthetically, it is the face lifted Polo revealed in April. Though with the new Polo GTI, it now comes standard with the new IQ.Light, LED matrix headlights and and an illuminated radiator grille, and new GTI-specific number.

Meanwhile, the rear is blessed with newly-designed LED rear lights with animated brake light and integrated dynamic indicators.

No clear words on the availability yet.
