Caterham Seven 310 Encore Sends Off The Sigma Engine With A Pop-Punk Bang

Caterham Seven 310 Encore Sports Car

If you’ve ever wanted a track weapon that looks like it could headline Glastonbury, your time has come. Caterham is bidding farewell to the Ford Sigma engine with the Seven 310 Encore—a 152-horsepower, 540-kilogram (1,190-pound) limited edition that feels like a firecracker in a carbon fibre suit.

Built for both road and racetrack chaos, the Encore features a naturally aspirated 1.6L Ford Sigma four-pot making 168 Nm (124 lb-ft) of torque, mated to a five-speed manual. It rockets from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in just 4.9 seconds and tops out at 127 mph (204 km/h). All that with a power-to-weight ratio of 281 hp per tonne. Fun is not optional.

Handling is dialled in thanks to a sports suspension pack with adjustable spring platforms, a widened front track, and an adjustable rear anti-roll bar. Braking duties are handled by quad-piston calipers clamping down on race-ready 254 mm vented discs.

Each of the 25 cars will roll out in a pop-culture-inspired colour scheme like Blue Monday, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and Orange Crush. There’s a carbon fibre dashboard, black leather seats with grey stitching, and a numbered plaque so your bragging rights are safely laminated into the cabin.

And for all this limited-edition madness? It’ll set you back from £39,995 (about US$54,250). Not bad for what is essentially a retirement party on four wheels.
