Have you heard? After the wave of Studio Ghibli-style images, ChatGPT users are now turning themselves into action figures—complete with iconic blister packaging. I didn’t even realize it was a thing until one of my fellow publishers, the founder of The Awesomer, shared an image of himself as an action figure. Very cool. Naturally, I had to try it myself.
According to PetaPixel, ChatGPT recently upgraded its AI image generator to a more powerful model, which makes this kind of magic possible. What you’re seeing here is the result of my own request. But fair warning—it’s hit or miss. Don’t expect it to nail it on the first go.
Now, here’s where the real power of the image generation shines: ChatGPT follows instructions to the letter. If you’re having trouble describing, say, a pair of pants or specific glasses, you can just upload a reference photo. That’s what I did.
Like I said, it’s hit or miss. What you see here is version number eight—the closest match to what I asked for. As for the likeness? Yeah, I don’t look like that. Not even close. In fact, none of the previous versions looked like me either. I know it’s meant to be a caricature of sorts, but they’re still pretty far off.
Still, it’s fun. Just note that you’ll need to be a paid user—free accounts have limited image generations, and trust me, you’ll need more than three. Anyhoo, you may not be famous enough to get the Ken doll treatment like Lebron James, but you sure can create a digital action figure of yourself! Oh, wait. Personalized, actual action figure has been a thing since… what? 2012?
