Hubble Space Telescope’s Pillars Of Creation Image In LEGO Form

Images From Hubble Space Telescope in LEGO

LEGO Go Beyond space campaign is a celebration of space exploration. The campaign kicked late last month with the LEGO 10283 NASA Discovery Space Shuttle and now, LEGO is following up with 3D models of images from the Hubble Space Telescope.

Three variations of the famous Pillars of Creations image are recreated as 20” by 20” multi-dimensional brick works in a style of bas-relief. The result is absolutely gorgeous – if you admire it from afar.

Here’s what Pillars of Creation is about for those who are unfamiliar:

“The aptly named Pillars of Creation, captured by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, are part of an active star-forming region within the nebula and hide newborn stars in their wispy columns.”

Now for the good and bad news. First, the bad news. The Images From Hubble Space Telescope in LEGO are not something money can buy.

However, they are available to view at 160 LEGO stores around the world starting April 18 and digitally on LEGO.com.

As for the good news, space/LEGO geeks can recreate their own versions too by following the instructions hosted on LEGO.com. But there’s a catch; it will be a miniature version. In other words, you’d be building a low-resolution version of the Hubble image. Not exactly exciting, IMHO.
