If you are a motorcycle enthusiast who happens to also love bento, well then, you will want to hear this interesting news. Forget about the bento your mum packed for you during your school days when you were a kid, and also ignore those boring square boxes some restaurants use for takeaways. As a true motorcycle enthusiast, you will want Bike Bento, a motorcycle fuel tank-shaped bento.
That’s right. It is a bento box in the likeness of a motorcycle fuel tank that, while not designed for fuel, is designed for another kind of “fuel”—food that, when digested, gives us energy and also doubles as a gastronomical delight. These unique bentos are usually sold at the Ryusei Kaikan roadside rest stop in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture.
Obviously, the “bike” here means motorized two-wheelers, a.k.a. a motorcycle, not a bicycle—just to be clear and not create any confusion, since in some regions, bicycles are also commonly called bikes. There are a bunch of designs, each containing “fuel” to keep you going on the road. There are many designs to choose from, including collaboration models.
You can repurpose it for your next picnic, work lunch, or, as Bike Bento suggests, turn it into a tissue box, a piggy bank, a mood light, a wall clock, or even an iPad stand. What it can be repurposed into is limited only by your imagination. Obviously, repurposing this novel bento box requires some tinkering, which means what it can be turned into also depends on your creativity and how good you are with your hands.
Oh, it is microwave-safe, so maybe just stick with it as a bento box if you are not good with your hands. One more thing: fuel tank bento with designs is achieved using stickers, which you will need to apply yourself.
Prices start at 1,300 yen [JP] (~US$8.41) for the plain pink model. We heard there is a Kamen Rider Cyclone fuel tank, too.
