Mountain Dew Celebrated “Almost” 80 Years With 5-Cent Commemorative Can Bundle

Mountain Dew Commemorative Can

Big corporations never fail to find ways to celebrate (and then sell us something). But I think Mountain Dew, a product of PepsiCo, has taken it a bit too far—or should I say, too early? The soda brand has jumped the gun by celebrating its almost 80 years since its founding in 1948 with 1,948 limited-edition commemorative can bundles priced at a mere US$0.05 each.

Before you start wondering if Mountain Dew has discovered time travel, the 1,948 bundles are a tribute to the year the citrus drink was born. Each bundle includes a commemorative can printed with the brand’s origin story and a 10-pack of Mountain Dew Mini cans. The commemorative can is strictly for display, so don’t crack it open expecting a refreshing sip.

The bundles were available exclusively through TikTok Shop from June 29 to July 1, with purchases limited to one per person. That said, you can no longer buy it, but this being the Internet age, you probably can find them in the open market.

As for the five-cent price tag, PepsiCo isn’t saying much. The company only notes that it was inspired by one of its “American Original – Tasting Great Since ’48′” campaign videos, which you can find embedded below. Whether it is also a cheeky nod to the era when a bottle of soda could be bought for a nickel is left for fans to decide.
