Smartisan is back with a new phone after a long hiatus called Smartisan Nut Revolution 2, or just R2. It is the first 5G device for the brand that is powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, featuring an octacore processor with clock speed up to 2.84 GHz and Adreno 650 GPU.
We are at the last leg of 2020 and at this point, 2020 smartphone’s specs are pretty stale, IMHO. That said, you can expect the R2 to bear similar features to most flagships we have seen to date. And that include LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and fast charging technology which, in this instance, is a 55W fast charger with support for QC 4.0 and PD 3.0.
The device has a 90 Hz 6.67-inch FHD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The screen has a hole punch where a 20 MP selfie camera that has AI beauty baked into it as well as support for Douyin filters and stickers.
Over at the back, it has a quad-camera setup, comprising of a 108 MP main camera featuring Samsung S5KHMX CMOS censor, an 8 MP telephoto lens camera, a 13 MP super wide-angle lens camera and a 2cm 5 MP super macro lens camera, plus a laser focus sensor. The quad-camera a has rather unique layout and boasts a thin, long strip flash.
The device has dual nano SIM support which, interestingly, is located at the bottom of the device. There’s another interesting design feature with the R2. In addition to the usual volume buttons and power button on right of the device, it has two additional buttons (a button plus a slider) on the left which can be customized to trigger silent mode, driving mode and more.
Other details include 4,510 mAh (typical) battery, 180 Hz touch sampling rate, ultra-thin optics under display fingerprint sensor, face unlock with AI and 1,024 unique features recognition, 8K videoing capability, stereo speaker, DTS support, and the usual suspect of sensors and location.
The Smartisan Nut Revolution 2 Smartphone comes four memory/storage capacities: 8+128, 8+256, 12+256 and 16+512 GB, and it has a starting price of 4,499 yuan (approximately US$675). The device comes in a choice of light black, pine green, as well as a range-topping Pure White Time Special Edition that has just 2,000 units to go around.
