Enough of hatching dinosaurs and Yoshi (which is also a dino, btw). Here’s another toy from Spin Master that lets you witness the “hatching” of the prehistoric shark Megalodon, a.k.a. Otodus megalodon.
Never mind that this granddaddy of sharks, which lived millions of years after the dinosaurs went extinct, was born live through a process called ovoviviparity rather than hatching from an egg. Well, technically, it did hatch from an egg, but it did so inside its mother’s uterus. That said, the Primal Hatch Megalodon by Spin Master is perhaps a recreation of the egg-in-uterus environment.
Spin Master managed to squeeze a 1.5-foot-long Megalodon toy into an egg receptacle significantly smaller than the ancient shark toy. The toy comes with a reusable hatch tank containing the giant Megalodon egg. To begin, all you have to do is add water, making sure to pour it over the egg to trigger the hatching sequence.
After that, stand back and watch the magic happen. As the water fizzes and turns red, the ultimate marine predator awakens with glowing eyes and ferocious roars (yup, never mind the biological accuracy) before dramatically bursting from its shell.
Once hatched, the highly detailed 16-inch (40.6 cm) Megalodon features illuminated eyes and chomping jaws for action-packed interactive play. You can interact with it by touching the scar on its temple and even play games with it.
Unlike the Primal Hatch Jurassic World T. Rex, the hatching sequence is repeatable, so you can relive the experience until you are completely bored with it or the included disposable batteries conk out and need replacing.
Fun fact: In reality, the prehistoric predator hatched from an egg as an embryo, continued growing inside its mother, and was then birthed live into the ocean. And it was born big. Like, really, really, really big. Paleontological growth-ring analysis of fossilized Megalodon vertebrae suggests that pups were around 2 meters (6.6 feet) long at birth.
The Primal Hatch Megalodon by Spin Master was announced on August 18, 2026, and is available as we speak from Amazon.com for US$49.99.
