Older BMW fans may recall the iconic BMW 2002 Turbo. It was one heck of a car, though I am not old enough to experience its prowess, but for folks like me, I guess we have to content with the 2016 BMW M2 Coupe. We are not saying the M2 Coupe is a replacement of legendary 2002 Turbo, but it should share the same athletic prowess and spirit. Anyways, here it is, another M car, powered by a newly developed 3.0L inline six motor with M TwinPower Turbo technology that kicks out a 370 horses and 343-369 lb-ft (465-500 Nm) of torque.
Couple the high-performing power plant with the optional seven-speed M-DCT and Launch Control, the M2 is well capable of rocketing from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds and on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). And it has the look to match its performance, starting with a low front apron with massive air intakes, muscular flanks with M gills, M double-spoke 19-inch aluminum wheels and wrapping up with a low, wide rear (sexy!) with M-specific twin tailpipe exhaust system.
Other notable performance features include M Servotronic steering, M compound brakes, lightweight aluminum front and rear axles, electronically controlled Active M Differential, Dynamic Stability Control system. On the inside, the M feel is enhanced with an interior featuring Alcantara touches, porous carbon fiber, blue contrast stitching, M embossing, sport seats (of course), M sports steering wheel and M gearshift lever.
Availability and pricing for the 2016 BMW M2 Coupe are yet to be disclosed, but the last we heard, it will be heading to stateside, with a limited range of options, starting in spring of 2016.
