Apple 16-inch MacBook Pro Unveiled With 6 Speakers, Redesigned Keyboard Mechanism

Apple users who are still mourning over the death of large screen MacBook Pro (namely, the 17-inch MacBook Pro), we have news for you. You can stop mourning because, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is here.

However, before you get ga-ga over it, if you aren’t a fan of the scissor mechanism keyboard like myself, then you are going to be sorely disappointed.

Apple is sticking to its gun with this keyboard “innovation,” i.e. the new Apple 16-inch MacBook Pro still uses the scissor mechanism, albeit one that has been “redesigned.” It now boasts a millimeter of travel “for a more satisfying key feel.”

Keyboard aside, this new 16-incher from Apple packs a 16-inch 3,072 x 1,920 Retina display, six-speaker sound system, a longer battery life (11 hours of use, 30 days standby), Force Touch trackpad, Apple T2 Security Chip, Touch ID and whether you like it or not, Touch Bar.

There’s a slight reprieve with the Touch Bar, though. It now has a physical Escape key. Yay. I guess?

Under the hood, you will have a choice of processor, ranging from 2.6 GHz 6-core Intel Core i7 up to 2.4 GHz 8-core Intel Core i9. Random Access Memory is 16 GB, configurable up to a cool 64 GB while storage starts at 512 GB, configurable up to a mind-bending 8 TB. SSD, of course.

Finally, on the graphics department, there is the Intel UHD Graphics 630 along with AMD Radeon Pro 5300/5500M GPU. The latter can be configured up to 8 GB of GDDR6 memory.

Unfortunately, you won’t be getting a lot of I/Os despite it being the biggest Apple laptop in today’s lineup. In addition to a headphone jack, there are four Thunderbolt 3 ports with USB-C interface. That’s that.

The rest of the spec-sheet details are somewhat rudimentary. You know, wireless 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, 720p FaceTime HD camera. Stuff like that.

Apple 16-inch MacBook Pro is available on Apple.com beginning today with a starting price of $2,399. It will hit brick and mortar stores in stateside later this week and coming soon to stores around the world.
