Fairphone 3: A Truly Sustainable Smartphone Made With Responsibly Sourced Materials

Fairphone 3 Presale Event Announced

In an age where handset makers are making handsets not repairable by individuals, Dutch social enterprise Fairphone is going the opposite way. Building on the concept modularity the brand introduced in Fairphone 2, the new Fairphone 3 strikes a balanced between performance and sustainability.

Billed as the most advanced modular phone to date, the new Fairphone is sleeker, slimmer and more importantly, wants to own and use it for longer. Fairphone estimates that by keeping the Fairphone 3 longer, you’d be saving 30 percent of CO2 emissions, if not more.

In addition to 7 modules designed with easy repairs in mind, Fairphone 3 also touts responsibly sourced and conflict-free tin and tungsten, recycled copper and plastics, and sources Fairtrade gold.

Key specifications are as follow:

Now, this being a phone that pride itself as repairable and sustainable, it is therefore a barebone package that does not come with a charger or cable. Fairphone wants you use your existing accessories you already have and thus help in cutting down on e-waste.

And oh, did we mention that it has a super cool, translucent back cover? Now, that’s a look any geek will dig. Fairphone is available for presale for priced at €450 (around US$497).
