Watch Ken Block Puts The Ford Electric Rally Cross Car To Its Paces (And Slayed A Tire In The Process)

Ford Fiesta ERX Electric Rally Cross Car in Action

Other motorsports have already gotten into electric races and now, it is finally rallycross’ turn – specifically, the FIA’s new World Rallycross Project E race series. What you see here is race car driver Ken Block‘s ride for the series.

With a drivetrain built by STARD Austria, this all-electric Ford Fiesta ERX Electric Rallycross Car packs a massive 450 kWh battery liquid-cooled with dry ice. Powering it are three motors, offering over 600 horsepower and 800 ft-lb of instant torque, hooked up to two separate 2-speed transmissions.

That’s NOT a typo. It has two gearboxes that operate as single-speed in race mode. And it has possibly the world’s most complicated steering wheel ever.

The result is a monstrosity that goes from nothing to 60 mph in a scant 1.8 seconds. 1.8 seconds! Holy mother of… that’s faster than you can 1.8 seconds! Top speed for this electric beast is 150 mph. Oh, it is the world’s all-electric road car-based race car.

Meanwhile, have a look at the man putting this electric beast to its paces (and slayed a tire in the process) prior to the first-ever electric rallycross race in August held in Sweden at the Holjes rallycross circuit, which the man won.
