The granddaddy of the 360 action camera may have made the headlines by “intruding” into DJI’s territory with its gimbal cameras, but it has not forgotten its roots. Insta360 has unveiled its next-generation flagship 360 action camera, the Insta360 X6, and it wants to replace three cameras in your bag. Presumably, this leaves more room for the myriad of accessories which it has to offer.
The X6 uses two custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, providing what Insta360 describes as full 1-inch-equivalent 360 imaging. That translates to 33% more sensor area than the X5 and around four times the light intake per frame. A new low-light mode uses two ambient-light sensors to reduce flicker, while AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens separately and captures two exposures per frame for wider dynamic range.
Naturally, it is 2026, so AI has been invited. A triple-chip system combines an eight-core 3.3 GHz processor with two dedicated imaging chips, delivering a claimed 500% more computing power than the X5 while consuming 35% less power. Insta360 says the extra muscle produces sharper detail, cleaner colors, and better denoising in the dark.
The X6 is also the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision, complemented by 10-bit color and more than 1.07 billion recordable colors. Those who prefer handling color themselves can shoot in I-Log.
Its biggest trick, however, is the three-in-one camera system. In 360 mode, the X6 records everything around it at up to 8K50, allowing you to choose and reframe angles later. InstaFrame 2.0 produces flat 4K footage while tracking people, pets, and objects. Add the Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, and its joystick provides gimbal-style control without a separate gimbal. Finally, single-lens mode turns the X6 into a conventional action camera, offering up to 5K60, a 170-degree field of view at 5K30, or 4K120 slow motion.
Despite its palm-sized, boxier body, the X6 carries an always-on 2.32-inch OLED display with 1,200 nits of peak brightness and glove-friendly controls. Its 2,600 mAh battery records up to 140 minutes of 8K30 footage—51% longer than the X5—and charges from empty to 80% in 24 minutes. It is rated to operate down to -20°C (-4°F), in case your hobbies involve filming somewhere your fingers have stopped cooperating.
Other highlights include FlowState stabilization, 360 Horizon Lock, a four-microphone wind-resistant array, a dedicated Hidden Engine Mic for motorcyclists, 47 GB of usable internal storage, and replaceable lenses that are claimed to be five times more scratch-resistant. The IP68 body is waterproof to 20 m (66 ft), or 60 m (197 ft) with the Invisible Dive Case Pro.
PanoMind, Insta360’s on-device 360 AI model, can analyze footage while the camera charges and use AI Director to assemble highlight clips automatically. Auto Edit 2.0 offers one-tap editing when you want some involvement but not, you know, actual editing.
