Somewhere between an electric motorcycle and a pedal-assist bicycle, there is a category of EV that we don’t really have a proper name for. You could call them an ebike, or an electric moped, or maybe just “eMoped.” The JackRabbit MG Platform Micro Hauler sits in that hazy category, and at the same time, in a category of its own.
It is, well, a micro hauler. How so? Because it lets you be the Uber of electric bikes (not that we’re suggesting you start charging your friends) while also letting you haul stuff like a tiny, battery-powered pickup.
JackRabbit has introduced two models on this new MG Platform. The MG Doble is a tandem-ready rig that somehow carries two adults and their gear, yet still weighs only 52 pounds (24 kilograms) and folds flat to stash in your car. Its 749W motor laughs at hills, and with over ten attachment points, you can haul just about anything short of a sofa.
Meanwhile, the MG Renegade is the muscle-bound sibling—44 pounds (20 kilograms) of portable power built for bigger riders, off-road adventures, and payloads that would make a normal ebike weep.
Both hit 20 mph (24 in off-road mode), roll for 48 miles (77 kilometers), and fold flatter than your excuses. Available now for 2,499.99 US dollars. Clearly, the price isn’t for the faint of heart.
