LEGO Life-size Apollo 11 Astronaut

July 20, 2019 marks the 50 years of moon landing by NASA astronauts, Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin. LEGO, though not directly involved in this historic event, has rolled out the LEGO Creator Expert 10266 NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander to commemorate this momentous achievement happened 5 decades ago. In addition, the Danish toy company also commissioned and built an impressive LEGO Life-size Apollo 11 Astronaut to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon landing.

Check out the visor’s reflection above.

You must be thinking, “it is just another life-size LEGO built.” Yes, it indeed is, but holy cow. Wait till you see what the LEGO master builders did to the helmet, specifically the ‘visor’. Not only was the detail on the suit spot on, this LEGO Life-size Apollo 11 Astronaut features an insanely detailed helmet visor. The ‘visor’ boasts a ‘reflection’ of the lunar surface, complete with the requisite shades, along with the reflection of the other astronaut and part of the lunar lander module. Those are small details, but they are also details that actually made the LEGO Life-size Apollo 11 Astronaut comes alive. Not literally, obviously. But I think you get the idea.

All told, the 217-pound, 6+ feet (182.9 centimeters) tall LEGO Life-size Apollo 11 Astronaut took 80 hours to design and further 220 hours to build, and packs 44,051 LEGO elements.
