There’s A New Competitor In The Electric Pickup Truck Market And It Is A Fuel-Cell EV

Nikola Badget Electric Pickup Truck

With all the experience in designing electric semi-trucks, it is only a logical progression for Nikola Motor to be making an electric pickup truck. Wait. That’s not how “progression” goes, is it? Regardless, it is here (almost!), the Nikola Badger, Nikola Motor’s first electric pickup truck.

Nikola Badger is here for the pie both Tesla and Rivian (and possibly GMC) are eyeing on. What makes the Nikola Badger stands out is, it is both a battery electric vehicle (BEV) AND a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).

FCEV is a natural adoption since the company is already in making headway in hydrogen fuel-cell semi-trucks. And oh, it will have specs and performance that rivals its competitions.

Specs and performances like up to 906 horsepower and up to 980 lb-ft (1,329 Nm!) of torque, 0-60 (0-97 km/h) in 2.9 seconds, 8,000 lbs towing capacity, 4×4 independent wheel drive (IWD), and an impressive 600 miles (966 kilometers) of range – 300 miles (483 kilometers) from battery and 300 miles from fuel-cell.

There’s a lot to be excited about the Nikola Badger because, fuel cell. Personally, I see FC as the future of electrification. We can’t go on to take power from the grid as we never know if they are burning coals to get the electricity you need. Fuel Cell assures us true, clean energy and fueling is less of pain.

Nikola Motor will be taking “limited reservations” come this September and if you want in, make sure you get yourself signed up.

As for the price, it is still unclear at this point. Availability is not known, but the company said it will go into production in 2021.
