The new Batman movie was released with good receptions. One of the talks of the town about this movie is the cape crusader’s ride of choice, the Batmobile. It was, well, so ordinary looking. So much so that it stood out from the past silver screen Batmobiles.
It’s very refreshing and very down-to-earth, and a nod to the Batmobiles of the early days. But it does take time to get used to Batman not having a vehicle that fits into the gothic and gloomy Gotham City’s vibe.
And just as we were trying to do that (i.e. getting used to it), artist and head designer over at West Coast Customs‘ Musa Rio Tjahjono (@musartwork) did the imaginable; he reimagined a Batmobile based on a cult JDM ride: the Nissan Skyline GT-R.
Yes. It was the GT-R with the Skyline namesake aka the good old times before it was ruined by Ghosn.
Under normal circumstances, Musa’s reimagination is nothing wrong. But what’s wrong is, he did not just take a pre-Ghosn era GT-R and tweaked it to get to the ordinary-looking Batmobile style. He actually spliced an R34 and R32 together. Blasphemy! Ugh.
Don’t get me wrong. I have as much adoration for the R34 as I have for R32 and R33 but the Godzilla should be left as it was because itself is worthy as a Batmobile, IMHO. Anywho, Musa took an R32 Skyline GT-R and gave it an R34 front.
Like Matt Reeves’ reimagination of the Batmobile which takes some time getting used to, Musa’s JDM Batmobile also needs some getting used to. I think it is starting to grow on me.
