Nothing Phone (2) Announced, Starts At US$599

Nothing Phone (2) Smartphone

If you haven’t already heard, Nothing has a phone. Before we go on, can we appreciate Nothing’s effort to announce its follow-up device on exactly the same day as the Nothing Phone (1)? Anyhoo, Nothing Phone (2) was officially revealed on July 11.

Unlike its first device, the Nothing Phone (2) is a flagship device with a flagship-ish chip. At first glance, the new Nothing Phone (2) looks like the Phone (1) but it is not (quite). There are some subtle design changes – one which is the best experience holding it.

The new device has a curved transparent back which should offer a more comfortable hold. In addition, the Glyph interface has been given an update, now boasting no less than 11 segment LED strips with a whopping 33 total LED lighting zones.

This brings us to good news for Glyph lovers; Nothing is offering up the SDK and API for the Glyph interface to developers. This means third-party developers can now take advantage of the Glyph for their apps.

The new device is significantly more powerful and larger, benefiting from Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip and a large 6.7” flexible OLED display with LTPO that offers 120 Hz (adaptive) refresh rate, 2,412 by 1,080 resolution, 10-bit color depth, HDR10+, SGS Low Blue Light, 1,000,00:1 contrast ratio and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Nothing Phone (2) also has a dual camera setup, comprising a 50 MP main camera with a 1/1.56” Sony IMX890 sensor (f/1.88, 1 μm pixel size, 24 mm focal length, OIS/EIS) and a 50 MP ultra-wide/macro camera featuring a 1/2.76” Samsung JN1 sensor (f/2.2, 114° FoV, EIS).

Meanwhile, the front gets a 32 MP Sony IMX615 sensor. It is outfitted with a 4,700 mAh battery that supports 45 W PPS wired charging and 15 W wireless charging, plus 5 W reverse wireless charging.

Other notables include IP54 splash, water, and dust resistance, face and finger unlock (works with face coverings), dual stereo speakers, dual SIM support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, positioning, and 5G connectivity.

The new Nothing Phone (2) is available to order now in black or white, and in a choice of 8+128, 12+256, and 12+512 configurations, with a starting price of US$599.
