Seiko Marks JAWS 50th Anniversary With a Diver’s Watch That’s More Bite Than Bling

Seiko Prospex JAWS 50th Anniversary Model

Ahhh… JAWS, the movie that single-handedly made countless people afraid of stepping into the waters at the beach. It is 50 years old this year, and to reward it for the trauma it brought to the people and a reminder of the dreadful waters in which Bruce lurks, Seiko has released a commemorative Prospex timepiece.

The Seiko Prospex JAWS 50th Anniversary Model isn’t just a random diver with a shark slapped on the dial. Nope. It actually throws back to a popular Seiko diver from 1976—the very same era when Spielberg’s finned nightmare swam into theaters. So, in a way, it’s not only a nod to cinema history but also to Seiko’s own dive-watch heritage of the time.

On the dial, you’ll find a gorgeous blue gradient evoking the ocean’s surface, hiding a shark motif that only appears when the light hits just right, echoing the film’s genius of showing less shark to make you fear more. At six o’clock, the unmistakable “JAWS” logo sits proudly, ensuring you’ll never forget which movie ruined your summer holidays.

Flip it over and the tribute continues: the caseback features the Orca boat and a dorsal fin, plus “JAWS 50th / LIMITED EDITION” alongside a serial number. Each piece comes in a special box with the movie’s key visual printed on the watch cushion, making it feel like Spielberg himself signed off on it.

Specs-wise, it’s a 45 mm stainless-steel diver with a 13.2 mm thickness, sapphire crystal, 200 m water resistance, and Seiko’s Caliber 4R36 automatic with a 41-hour power reserve.

Only 5,000 pieces will be made worldwide (700 for Japan), priced at 110,000 yen [JP] in Japan, or US$795 in the United States.
