Sony Xperia 5 Unveiled, It Is Essentially The Xperia 1 In A Tighter More Pocketable Package

Sony Xperia 5 Smartphone Announced

Now that Sony Mobile has pulled itself out of certain markets, any Sony Mobile that comes along feels like a connoisseur stuff. Speaking of which, it has been a while since we last heard from Sony’s mobile arm and today, or more correctly, yesterday, we hear about the new Sony Xperia 5.

The Xperia 5 is essentially the Xperia 1 debuted at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, but in a much tighter package. Here’s a rundown of its key specifications:

• 21:9 CinemaWide 6.1-inch FHD+ (1,080 x 2,520 pixels) OLED display powered by BRAVIA TV technologies with X1 for mobile
• Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB UFS storage that is further expandable up to 512 GB via microSDXC card
• Camera (rear):
⁃ Triple camera setup (3x 12 MP), BIONZ X for mobile, Eye AF technology from Sony Alpha cameras, Optical SteadyShot image stabilization
⁃ Continuous burst shooting at up to 10 fps AF/AE tracking with increased calculations up to 30 fps
• Camera (front): 8 MP 1/4-inch sensor front-facing camera paired to f2.0 lens
• Corning Gorilla Glass 6 front and back, IP65/IP68 certified water resistance
• 3,140 mAh battery with USB PD fast charging
• Available in Single SIM and Dual SIM, and in three colors: Black, Blue, Grey and Red (?)
• Physical size is 168 x 68 x 8.2 mm, 164g
• For the full rundown of the specifications, you can hit up this page HERE.

Highlights include the ability to hook with a Playstation DualShock 4 wireless controller to play games like Fortnite and other compatible games. Interestingly, there is also an “improved” Game enhancer that will allow you to record your gameplay, as well as changing your voice. Wait, what? Changing voice? Whatever that’s deem necessary? Never mind. It is hard to phantom Sony’s direction anyways.

The Sony Xperia 5 will ship with Android 9 Pie and it will be available in the U.K. starting Friday, October 4, 2019, for £699 (about US$860). Sony will be taking pre-order from Wednesday, October 18. It is not known to us when the Sony Xperia 5 will be arriving in the U.S. Will it even be coming?
