Cyclists have a talent for spending money to make things disappear. A few grams here, a little more weight there, and before long, the bike is lighter and so is the bank account. Superteam Wheels’ new MATIC S68 carbon wheelset should help with both.
The flagship release from MATIC, Superteam’s new premium sub-brand, weighs 1,348 grams for the pair: 632 grams up front and 716 grams at the rear. Each wheel uses 16 spokes, with rims measuring 68 mm deep, 28 mm wide externally, and 21 mm internally.
The construction is where Superteam makes its pitch. Rather than the split-mold approach used by some one-piece wheels, the S68 employs one-piece molding and hole-less rim technology. Superteam says professional riders helped refine the design through repeated real-world testing. You still have to supply the legs, though.
The MATIC S68 carries a regular price of US$2,999, with a limited-time promotion starting October 25 bringing it down to US$2,599. Complimentary lifetime after-sales support is included, addressing some of the maintenance concerns surrounding one-piece wheels.
That’s US$400 saved. Best keep it away from the rest of the bike’s upgrade list.
