This is super old news from 2017, but I believe this one-of-a-kind vessel is still available for those who fantasize about a life of the MI6’s not-so-secret secret agent. What you see here is a flying saucer-like vessel that, according to its designer Stef Van Der Bijl, is really a floating bed. So, yeah, forget water bed. This “bed” literally lets you sleep on water.
In 2015, the avant-garde, multidisciplinary designer had a vision of a floating bed inspired by the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. In particular, he was intrigued by the luxurious capsule in which Bond and the Russian spy used to escape from the artificial island of Atlantis. In the movie, the capsule had, you guessed it, a round bed.
However, Stef Van Der Bijl’s The Spy Who Loved Me-inspired Floating Capsule has a lot more to offer than a round bed, surrounded by a minibar. It boasts joystick controls, a Cognac leather double bed, a mirror-polished aluminum dashboard, and a refrigerator for 3 bottles of wine, 2 bottles of water, and 4 cans of beer. I know, right? The stash is definitely not enough for two people out on the water for too many days.
Anyhoo, the boat—if you could call it one—further boasts an air-conditioning system, an audio system with 4 speakers and a subwoofer, an electrically operated glass dome for ingress and egress, aluminum and leather shoe holders, aluminum drinkware holders, aluminum phone holders, and storage for ropes, an anchor, a fire extinguisher, and an extra propeller.
The waterborne vessel further rocks LED lighting in the dome, around the boat, and a skylight (originally from a Beetle). And thanks to the front and rear view cameras offering modern-day resolution, you’d be able to sail even when lying in bed.
It is a leisure craft, not a vessel for running away from bad guys. So do not expect it to make any water speed records. The vessel’s 78 LBS electrical motor, coupled with 4 batteries, will not let it go any faster than 7 km/h. The craft is constructed from fiberglass, with the underwater hull coming from a donor Circraft jetski.
If you fancy one, prepare to part with 89,000 euros (~105,000 USD), not counting the extra fees and shipping to wherever you call home.
