These Steampunk-ish Bluetooth Speakers Look Like They Belong in a Victorian Laboratory

Barebones Living Block Tower Speakers

If you’re tired of conventional-looking portable speakers, well, Barebones Living may have just the speaker for you. Called the Barebones Block Tower Speaker, this little audio gadget looks like something pulled from a vintage scientific laboratory, with a touch of steampunk thrown in for good measure. And boy, does it look cool as hell.

Instead of the usual plastic and fabric, the Block Tower Speaker combines brass, copper-plated stainless steel, aluminum, and leather into a gorgeous, industrial-looking cube.

There’s even a leather carrying handle and warm amber LED battery indicators. Better yet, the brass develops a natural patina over time, giving it even more character.

But this isn’t merely an attractive desk ornament. Each speaker packs a 57 mm driver delivering 15 W of audio output, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 5,200 mAh battery promising over 20 hours of playback. Charging is available through USB-C or wirelessly, with either method taking around six hours. There’s even a slot for an additional compatible battery to extend playback.

The speaker measures 115 × 116 × 108 mm (4.52 × 4.57 × 4.25 inches) and weighs 872 g (1.92 lbs).

It also features a rather charming Vintage Music Mode with a built-in selection of public-domain tunes. Here’s where things get interesting. Two Block Tower Speakers can pair for true stereo sound, while three or more can deliver synchronized mono audio across a larger space.

And if you think the speaker looks cool on its own, wait until you see it stacked with Barebones’ Block Tower Lantern and Power Station. The three devices share a modular design, allowing you to build a rather handsome tower of audio, light, and power.

The Barebones Block Tower Speaker costs US$119.99 individually, US$239.98 for a two-pack, or US$359.97 for a three-pack.
