Before the Pixel 6 phone arrives, Google has a new phone to offer you: the Google Pixel 5a. As the model name suggests, it is a more affordable version of the Google Pixel 5 (and kind of a successor to 2020’s Pixel 4a). And it sure has quite a bit to shout about.
For starter, Google Pixel 5a is the first a-series phone that has an official IP rating (IP67) and it has got a bigger battery and screen, with the same dual-camera system found on the 5 to boot. I can’t see what’s not to love except for the dated (but minimal) design.
The Google Pixel 5a benefits from the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G found on the 5, along with the same 128 GB storage, but with 2 less Gigabyte of RAM, at 6 GB. It has a larger 6.34-inch FHD+ OLED display where else the 5 has a 6-inch. However, the display does not have a high refresh.
The camera setup is identical to the 5, comprising of a 12.2 MP dual-pixel and 16 MP ultra-wide, and an 8 MP selfie camera in the screen’s “transmissive hole”.
The 5a also benefits from Titan M security chip, Pixel Imprint, a larger 4,680 mAh battery, dual SIM, stereo speakers, USB-C connectivity, 3.5 mm audio jack, and the usual suite of camera features that make a Pixel phone, a Pixel phone.
