Huawei Honor 6 Plus Packs Three 8MP Cameras

Huawei Honor 6 Plus Smartphone

To be honest, most handsets look pretty much alike and the newly announced Huawei Honor 6 Plus is no exception, but upon closer observation, you will notice that it has not one, not two, but three cameras, each offering 8MP resolution imaging. It almost sounds like a potential mobile photography enthusiast’s dream come true and it might very well be. The front has one camera for video chat and selfie, while the back has two, lined side-by-side, boasting an effective pixel size of just 1.98 microns. We already seen the benefits with a duo rear-facing cameras setup when HTC One M8 started the ball rolling earlier this year. So, not surprisingly, you can also expect about the same from Honor 6 Plus duo cameras, including refocus the capture photos, adjust their simulated aperture from f0.95 to f16, plus applying fun filters like tilt shift, sketch and comics.

On the handset proper, it is what you have expected of a flagship smartphone, starting with a 5.5-inch 1080p touch display with super thin bezels and a Kirin 925 octa-core chipset and a low-power i3 coprocessor. Other details include 3GB rAM, up to 32GB onboard storage, built-in IR transmitter, and a 3,600 mAh battery. And oh, did we mention that it has dual SIM support too and one of the SIM card slot actually doubles as a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB? Yeah. Now that’s something new. Also, it also rocking a feature which we have yet to come across and that is to trigger the camera shutter when the screen is off, simply by double-pressing the volume down button and double-clicking the volume-up gets the device to start recording voice memo.

Other details are pretty standard, which includes (but limited to) NFC, LTE Cat 6 connectivity, 100GB of lifetime cloud storage, and free access to over 8 million WiFi hotspots globally, of which 7 million are in China. Price-wise, Huawei Honor 6 Plus cost 1,999 RMB (or about $320) for the 3G-only 16GB model and 2,499 RMB (around US$400) 4G premium edition. And oh, apparently, it is open for pre-order (in China, of course) between now and December 22, while official sales will kick off on the following day after the pre-order concludes, on the 23rd.
