If there is one thing Formula 1 drivers have proven over the years, it is that they will race just about anything with four wheels, even giant LEGO cars. After stealing the show at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, the LEGO Drivers’ Parade returned for the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, only this time, LEGO doubled the fun—and the brick count.
Instead of sharing 10 oversized LEGO racers as they did in Miami, all 22 drivers got their own drivable LEGO Formula 1 car decked out in their team’s 2026 livery. Each one was built from more than 28,000 LEGO bricks, weighs around 280 kg (617 lbs), and can hit speeds of over 25 km/h (15 mph). Beneath all those colorful bricks is a go-kart chassis, because even LEGO knows nobody wants to Flintstone their way around Silverstone. The fleet took a team of 20 designers, engineers, and master builders over 6,400 hours to create.
Naturally, the parade didn’t stay parade-like for very long. Formula 1 drivers being Formula 1 drivers, some immediately treated it as a race. The result? Chaos. Cars got beached, shortcuts were attempted, Carlos Sainz famously abandoned his stranded LEGO racer to hitch a ride with Lando Norris, and Fernando Alonso somehow crossed the line first.
It was probably the slowest race of the weekend, but it was also one of the most entertaining. I mean, it’s all in the name of fun before the serious stuff sets in again.
