You already “sent” the Hubble Space Telescope into space with the LEGO NASA Discovery Space Shuttle (10283) set. Now it is time you build and “operate” the actual Hubble Space Telescope. Folks, meet the LEGO Icons Hubble Space Telescope (11382), a 1,252-piece set that lets you recreate the technological marvel in incredible detail.
When completed, this set, measuring 38 cm (15 in.) long, 38 cm (15 in.) wide, and 32 cm (12.5 in.) high, recreates the legendary space-based telescope with posable solar arrays and antennas, an opening aperture door, and a detailed instrument bay depicting the gyroscopes and primary and secondary mirrors, all of which can be viewed by removing the exterior panels. The set includes a buildable stand and base, complete with an information plaque, and it also comes with an astronaut minifigure for an approximate sense of scale.
Fun fact: The Hubble Space Telescope was originally launched by NASA into Low Earth Orbit (LEO)—about 300 miles (483 kilometers) above Earth—on April 24, 1990. Interestingly, while it is the OG space telescope on the outside, internally it is pretty much a brand-new machine. Its internals were completely overhauled across five separate Space Shuttle servicing missions. The last servicing mission took place in May 2009.
