LEGO must have looked at its collaboration with The Pokémon Company and realized that since it can make roundish creatures come to life with bricks, why not other adorable creatures? Now, I am just speculating, but that must be the case because soon we will be getting Hello Kitty and Friends, too! Damn, what a time to be alive, right?
The LEGO Group and Sanrio have announced a multi-year partnership, with the first LEGO Sanrio products arriving in 2027. That means Hello Kitty is getting some company on the brick-built adventure, with fan-favorite characters also promised.
Exactly which friends are coming along remains under wraps. There are no set reveals, piece counts, prices, or specific release dates yet. We also don’t know whether we’re getting character builds, little worlds for them to inhabit, or a mixture of both. So, yes, we have permission to get excited, but nothing to clear shelf space for just yet.
Hello Kitty has been around since 1974, and her merchandise already spans approximately 50,000 product types sold annually across more than 130 countries and regions. Adding LEGO to that enormous collection seems almost overdue.
For now, the announcement gives us a year to look forward to and plenty to imagine. Personally, I want to see how LEGO handles those rounded faces. The cuteness is mandatory. How well the world’s famous plastic bricks can achieve that remains to be seen.
