You have seen remote-controlled toys that are hovercrafts and RC drones; now meet a hovercraft-ish RC toy that is also a space exploration rover-like vehicle that climbs walls and ceilings. What makes the LIVESTYLE Type-ZERO Alpha (Type-ZERO α) brilliant is that it is a kid’s toy, which means it is highly accessible financially and in terms of playability.
Its four propellers generate enough suction to hold the 62 g (2.2 oz) machine against smooth vertical surfaces and ceilings, turning your room into a three-dimensional racetrack. Since gravity has been overruled, the Alpha can transition from the floor to a wall and continue across the ceiling without falling onto an unsuspecting cat.
Pressing one button rotates the propellers and wheels 90 degrees, transforming it into Hovering Drive Mode. The downward airflow lifts the body slightly to reduce contact resistance, letting it skim smoothly across the floor. An orange central LED illuminates its path and adds the appropriate space-rover drama.
The 2.4 GHz controller supports multiple vehicles running together and has a range of around 25 m (82 ft). Its rechargeable battery delivers roughly four minutes in anti-gravity mode or ten minutes on the ground.
Measuring 111 × 106 × 50 mm (4.4 × 4.2 × 2 inches), the LIVESTYLE Type-ZERO Alpha costs 9,878 yen [JP] (about US$67) and launches in Japan in October 2026. Curiously, despite its toy-like accessibility, the official recommended age is 15 and above. Gravity-defying licenses take time, kids.
