Ever wish you could run AAA titles like the graphics-intensive Cyberpunk 2077 on your smartphone? Well, now you can with the new Redmagic 9S Pro Series gaming smartphones. But it will not let you play PC games out-of-the-box, you need to use the free emulator Mobox to do that.
SoC and Memories
Anyhoo, the ability to play PC games proves how powerful the Redmagic 9S Pro Series [CH] is. Powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version, which is essentially an overclocked SD 8 Gen 3 with a max big core clock speed of 3.4 GHz (from 3.3 GHz) and a GPU that has been boosted to 1 GHz from 900 MHz. The newfound power is bolstered by the fastest memories which are LPDDR5X and UDS 4.0.
Cooling
Aesthetically, it looks like the Redmagic 9 Pro from last year—which we are totally fine with because it still looks fantastic. This means it has no camera bump, and it packs a bunch of gaming-centric features including a 22,000 RPM fan with a new RGB light effect—all while maintaining a profile of just 8.9 mm.
The fan is paired with a cooling tunnel that now touts an 18% larger surface area which increases heat dissipation by 20%. To take the heat down further during intensive gaming sessions, the device further features a new frost cooling gel that offers ultra-high thermal conductivity through an innovative low thermal resistance thermal conductive material that has 20% higher thermal conductivity than the previous generation gel.
In addition to thermal conductivity, this new gel also helps lower the mainboard’s temp by up to 5°C (41°F). Those are not it. The new Redmagic 9S Pro series further boasts an ICE 13.5 magic cool heat dissipation system. In addition to the air and liquid cool, there is a super large VC (10,182 mm2) capable of lowering the CPU cores’ temperatures to 25°C (77°F).
Display
The new 9S Pro is outfitted with a 6.8” 2,480 x 1,116 resolution 120 Hz display that boasts a 960 Hz touch sampling rate and a mind-blowing 2,000 Hz momentary touch sampling rate. Also on the display which you cannot see is the 6th-gen under-display camera features a 16 MP AI-enhanced selfie camera and an ultra-low profile in-display fingerprint sensor.
Cameras
In the imaging department, it gets a dual-camera setup comprising a 50 MP main camera with OIS and a 50 MP super wide-angle. Imaging is never Redmagic’s forte but a 50 MP setup should suffice for most users.
Other Details
A few other notables include 520 Hz built-in shoulder triggers with customizable light effects, a 0815 large ultra-linear motor, a triple gaming mic setup, 1115K stereo speaker with 1.6CC super large sound cavity, 5G dual frequency Wi-Fi, 9 antennae in a surround setup, Redmagic Magic Square AI Large Model (for the first time, btw), Redmagic self-developed gaming chip Red Chip R2 Pro, 3.5 mm headphone jack, DTS: XULTRA certified, one-touch gaming button, and Redmagic OS 9.5.
Differences Between 9S Pro & 9S Pro+
There are two models of 9S Pro: the standard Redmagic 9S Pro and Redmagic 9S Pro+. The key difference lies in the battery capacity and max charging. The 9S Pro features a 6,500 mAh battery with 80 W fast charging while the Plus model has a 5,500 mAh battery and 165 W fast charging.
Pricing and Availability
The new Redmagic 9S Pro Series smartphones are available now in China with a starting of 4,799 yuan [CH] and 5,799 yuan [CH] (or around US$660 and US$798) for the Redmagic 9S Pro and the Redmagic 9S Pro+, respectively.
