The last time we discussed Sennheiser’s flagship earbuds, they did not even need a number. Well, we’re at 5 now. I may have hopped onto a time machine after that and come straight to August 20, 2026, when the German audio equipment maker announced the Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5.
Sennheiser’s latest flagship true wireless earbuds boast major upgrades to comfort, battery longevity, spatial audio, noise cancellation, wireless connectivity, and something unthinkable: user-replaceable batteries. I think that’s a major step toward sustainability and, to some extent, repairability.
Both the earbuds and charging case feature replaceable power cells—and Sennheiser conveniently includes both the mini screwdriver and specialized earbud opening tool right in the box so you can handle the swap yourself.
Since we are on the topic of batteries, we should also inform you of the battery life, which is up to 12 hours from the earbuds and as much as 40 hours with the Qi wireless charging case. It supports quick charging, too, with an eight-minute charge providing approximately one hour of playback.
Under the hood, each earbud is home to Sennheiser’s 7 mm TrueResponse dynamic driver, developed and manufactured in Tullamore, Ireland. High-resolution wireless audio is made possible through Bluetooth 6.0 with Snapdragon Sound, aptX Adaptive, and aptX Lossless, supporting audio transmission up to 24-bit/96 kHz on compatible devices.
And then there’s Dolby Atmos and head tracking. The latter means you can enjoy spatial audio—even with non-Atmos content.
In the noise-cancelling department, it promises improved ANC, thanks to revised adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation that works with four dedicated microphones. It also includes an automatic anti-wind mode. Meanwhile, six microphones, two bone-conduction voice accelerometers, and AI speech extraction work together to isolate speech in noisy surroundings.
Comfort- and fit-wise, the new wireless earbuds from Sennheiser rock finless, aerodynamic housings developed using data from thousands of ear models. It is also worth noting that they have a new charging case that is narrower and designed to slip more easily into pockets, which is what most TWS makers would do—except Huawei.
Other highlights include an IP54-rated construction, support for Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair, multipoint switching, and a selectable “robust mode” for maintaining connections in crowded wireless environments.
It is, naturally, app-enabled, allowing you to use Sennheiser Smart Control Plus to make the most of the earbuds, including the equalizer, guided Sound Personalization, and detailed feature customization.
The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 will be offered in Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim, and Lavender. Shipping begins on September 3, 2026, with a suggested retail price of US$299.95.
