What are the odds that you need to capture a fisheye view and zoom at the same time? Probably not often. Actually, I think “not often” is a result of the lack of lenses that can do that. That said, if you do have a lens like the Sony SEL814G Fisheye Zoom G Lens, then you can change “not often” to “whenever I want to experiment with shots.”
The Sony FE 8–14mm F3.5 Fisheye G is the company’s first full-frame E-mount fisheye zoom lens, offering two distinct perspectives without swapping lenses. At 8 mm, it produces a circular fisheye image with a 180° field of view. Zoom to 14 mm, and you get a diagonal fisheye image that fills the entire frame, also with a 180° diagonal field of view.
It maintains a constant f/3.5 aperture throughout the zoom range, while ED glass and aspherical elements help minimize aberrations. There’s also fast, quiet autofocus, an aperture ring with switchable click stops, and a minimum focusing distance of just 15 cm (5.9 inches).
Despite its unusual optics, the lens weighs only 314 g (11.1 oz) and measures 63.1 × 82.8 mm (2.48 × 3.26 inches). Its internal zoom mechanism helps maintain balance, making it suitable for handheld shooting and video rigs.
And for those thinking beyond ordinary photography, two of these lenses can be paired with Sony’s VENICE Extension System Mini for spatial and VR content creation.
Announced in September, the Sony FE 8–14mm F3.5 Fisheye G was scheduled for availability in October 2026, priced at US$1,599.99.
